We are celebrating Nurses Week by featuring some of our amazing Med Couture Brand Ambassadors. Today, we are introducing you to Jason. Jason is a high school nurse and we can’t wait for you to meet him!
The meaning of my name, Jason, really speaks volumes to my being a Registered Nurse; Jason means, “to heal” and “gains happiness by helping others”. From the time I graduated high school I knew I wanted to join the medical field. Health professionals have always surrounded me, as many of my family are nurses, doctors, and therapists.
I began my nursing career as a staff nurse at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation on the spinal cord injury unit. At Kessler, I learned essential nursing skills and the experience really provided me with a great nursing foundation. Even through all the unpleasantness I experience due to many of my patients having been paralyzed from motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, and gun shot wounds, I really connected with both them and their families. Many of the patients would generally have a hospital stay of at least two weeks, so I was able to build a relationship with them and see them progress and improve.
I recently transitioned to school nursing and ironically, I’m at the high school I graduated from. Even though the environment and patient acuity isn’t as intense, there are a wide range of issues that come up.
Nursing, especially for a male, is an amazing field to become a part of. The strenuous workload of nursing school is very challenging, but worth it in the end. As I advanced through my nursing career, I have realized that there is a nursing specialty for everyone: you just have to find it. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
